Reimagining dirt as design

This is an educational blog for lovers of the outdoors and for their kids to learn, play and explore nature together through the use of a material all around us - dirt!

About

MISSION

To serve as the middle ground between people’s desire to shape their environment and the land’s tendency for change — site-specific rammed earth designs that honor the earth they are created from. We create interactive experiences for all ages — spaces to touch, feel, and move through — blending art, design, and sustainability into forms that are both functional and poetic.

VISION

To change how people see natural materials like dirt, plants, and wood.  They are valuable building elements. We aim to influence the individual to work with the land, not against it, embracing natural change, erosion, and adaptation as part of the process.

VALUES

Reciprocity
We believe in giving back to the land what we take from it — creating in a way that nurtures ecological balance rather than depletes it.

Minimal Intervention
We aim to alter the environment as little as possible, allowing the natural character of the land to remain present and powerful.

Ecological Integrity
Materials are chosen with care, avoiding anything that compromises the health or wellbeing of the local ecosystem.

Contextual Sensitivity
Every design responds to its specific site — listening to the land, its rhythms, and its history before shaping anything.

Adaptation Over Domination
We advocate for working with what is already present, showing how human needs can be met through respectful adaptation rather than forceful change.
